About

Women with ADHD: Tired of trying harder? Try something different.

Hi, I’m Peyton — and I get it. I’m a woman with ADHD, the founder of Light Minded OT, and someone who knows firsthand how exhausting it can be to feel smart and capable, yet still stuck in a cycle of trying harder. I also hold a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Duke, where I focused on learning the ins and outs of occupational therapy — a field dedicated to helping people participate in the daily activities that matter most — and researching how ADHD impacts daily functioning, especially for women. Through this work, I came to understand how differently ADHD often presents in women and the importance of providing support tailored to their unique needs. My goal is to help women and teen girls with ADHD show up more fully in their daily lives. That might look like navigating parenting, meal prep, work, or simply keeping the laundry from piling up. Together, we work to reduce the real-life obstacles that ADHD creates. I've seen how helpful medication and talk therapy can be, but they don't always address the functional skills and everyday contexts where ADHD tends to show up — in the kitchen, at the office, during bedtime routines, or in managing a packed mental to-do list. That’s where occupational therapy comes in. Through practical strategies, environmental changes, and sensory supports, we target the areas of life where you need help the most — in real time, in real settings, with real goals. Occupational therapy offers a hands-on approach to building function. It's long been used to support kids with ADHD, but why should that stop at adulthood? Life doesn't suddenly get easier at 18, and support shouldn't end there either.
